Mumbai: While the prices of petrol and diesel are stable in the country, on the other hand the Maharashtra government has decided to reduce the tax on petrol and diesel, after which there will be some relief in oil prices in the state. Eknath Shinde, who took over as chief minister a few days back, on Thursday announced that the Maharashtra government will reduce the value added tax (VAT) on petrol and diesel by Rs 5 and Rs 3 per liter respectively. After this, now petrol will become cheaper by Rs 5 and diesel by Rs 3 in Maharashtra.

After this reduction, the price of petrol in Mumbai will now come down from Rs 111.35 to Rs 106.35 per liter. At the same time, diesel will be Rs 97.28 to Rs 94.28.

This big decision has been taken today after the Maharashtra cabinet meeting. This was announced by Eknath Shinde and his deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis.

Shinde said that “The central government had cut the excise duty on petrol and diesel on May 4, 2022. The center had also appealed to the states to cut their taxes. The earlier government did not reduce but our The government has decided to reduce petrol by Rs 5 and diesel by Rs 3 per litre. Although this will cost the government treasury Rs 6,000 crore, it will reduce inflation in the state.”

Devendra Fadnavis tweeted on this decision and said that “It is a big relief for Marathi Manush.”

Even on Thursday, the state-owned oil companies did not change the prices of petrol and diesel. However, crude oil has fallen steadily over the past few weeks, raising questions about whether this will have any impact on domestic oil prices.
